School Garden Program

Our garden started in 2009 with the help of local Boy Scout Troop 505.  Every year our garden has grown and flourished.  In the past two years, we've been able to donate over 200 pounds of student planted vegetables to those in need in our community!

Our success is due to a dedicated group of parent volunteers and a supportive network of community partnerships.

  • Parent volunteers work with teachers to facilitate lessons that enhance the student's awareness of our environment. Students engage in the hands-on lessons in our outdoor classroom, learning how to care for the soil, understanding what plants need to grow and discovering what creatures survive within our garden.

  • Partnerships with local business like Home Depot, Fabscapes Landscaping, and Cub Scout Pack 505 have enhanced our garden infrastructure. These improvements include a split-railed fence around our garden, a raised handicapped accessible garden bed, a 300- gallon rain barrel, and an outdoor sink and workable, and a beautiful boat garden which is home to plants native to Virginia.

Maintaining the garden space involves everyone: teachers, faculty, students, parents, and businesses within our community. Volunteers are the key to our success. Please consider being your classroom garden volunteer and begin exploring the hidden wonders of our school garden.
